Mammoth hot springs

The Mammoth Hot Springs are located  in the North West part of the park just south of Gardiner, MT.  They are fed by water flowing from Norris Geyser Basin through a fault line.  The entire area is thermally active and the hotel as well as Fort Yellowstone were built on top of dormant portions of the terraces.

During this trip we found ourselves saying things like "This looks like something from a sci-fi movie!" and "If I wasn't looking at this right now, I would not believe it was on Earth." Even looking at these pictures now, it feels like they could be pictures from satellite.
